SACO, ME (February 28, 2022) - Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution (SBSI) announced a donation of $5,000 divided between two local nonprofits, the Locker Project and Opportunity Alliance.
The donation celebrates Mutual Monday, the culmination of the bank’s month-long community activation for a cause. Over the past few weeks, the bank has been collecting photos from the community, and for every photo submitted, the bank pledged a $5 donation to local nonprofits providing food security and mental health services. Today, the bank is sharing the completed community mosaic. The mosaic is made up of photos submitted by customers, neighbors, employees, and friends and can be found by visiting sbsavings.bank/mutuality.
The community mosaic highlights Saco & Biddeford Savings’ new tagline “It’s a Mutual Thing,” with artwork designed by Biddeford-based artist Victoria Gordon. The scene shows the Saco River, running between the communities of Biddeford and Saco, where the bank was founded nearly 200 years ago. Today, SBSI has locations across Southern Maine in Saco, Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach, Portland, Scarborough, South Portland, and Westbrook.
“In our branches, at local events, and on social media over the past few weeks, people from across the community have been submitting their photos to our digital mosaic to support a great cause,” said Bob Quentin, President & CEO of Saco & Biddeford Savings. “We’re excited to share the digital mosaic which highlights the people that make up our communities and the places we love to call home, while benefiting two amazing nonprofits. It’s a community-powered way of expressing that–here at Saco Biddeford–It’s a Mutual Thing.”
Both benefiting organizations provide vital services for the Southern Maine community. The Locker Project helps ensure food security for children by providing class-time snacks and healthy foods they can take home for the times they are most likely to experience hunger—in the evening, over weekends, and during school breaks. They take a whole-family approach to child hunger with programs that strive to be low barrier, stigma-free, and environmentally responsible. The Opportunity Alliance provides advocacy, leadership, and support to address issues such as mental health, substance use, homelessness, lack of basic needs, and access to community supports. Through an extensive array of services, TOA provides opportunities for individuals to stabilize fragile situations and then works with them to achieve self-sufficiency.
